Let’s Draw a Whale!
Step 1: First, draw the face of the whale by carefully sketching its unique features, including the wide, rounded snout and the gentle curve of its jawline. This initial step sets the foundation for a stunning representation of one of nature’s most magnificent beings.

Step 2: Next, draw a big curve for the back side of the whale, ensuring that it gracefully arches to reflect the majestic shape of these gentle giants. Afterward, draw another curve for the tummy of the whale, making it slightly larger than the back to capture the wholesome and rounded appearance typical of their bodies. Be sure to give the curves a smooth and flowing quality, as this will help convey the fluid movement of the whale as it swims through the ocean depths.

Step 3: Then, draw the water spout coming out on top of the whale, making sure to capture the graceful arc of the water as it sprays into the air. You can add some tiny droplets to depict the mist that forms around it, illustrating the movement and energy of the scene. Consider varying the thickness of the lines to give the spout a more dynamic appearance, leading the viewer’s eye upwards and enhancing the whimsical nature of this magnificent creature.

Step 4: Draw both eyes using circles and don’t forget to add small circles for additional glares that will give your character a more lively and expressive look. Consider varying the sizes of these circles to create a more dynamic effect. For the mouth, draw a gentle curve that suggests a smiling expression, ensuring that the curvature reflects the emotions you want to convey.

Step 5: Next, draw both the left and right fins of the whale, ensuring that you capture their unique shapes and sizes. Start with the left fin, which is typically broader and more elongated, sketching it gently sloping from the body to the tip. Follow by outlining the right fin, making it slightly narrower to reflect the natural asymmetry of these magnificent creatures.

Step 6: Then, draw the tail of the whale, starting with a wide, sweeping curve that represents the majestic shape of this incredible creature. Make sure to emphasize the distinct flukes at the end of the tail, which should be broad and powerful, illustrating the whale’s grace and strength as it moves through the ocean.

Step 7: Lastly, draw additional details on the tummy of the whale using thin lines to create a textured appearance that mimics the natural patterns found on these magnificent creatures. Consider adding subtle curves and waves that reflect the ocean’s movement, enhancing the overall realism of your drawing. Did you know?
Whales are the biggest animals on Earth—and some are even bigger than dinosaurs? The blue whale can grow longer than a basketball court and weigh more than 30 elephants! Even though they live in the ocean, whales are not fish—they are mammals, just like us. That means they breathe air, give birth to live babies, and feed their calves with milk. Whales communicate with each other using songs, clicks, and whistles that can travel for miles underwater. Some whales, like humpbacks, are famous for their beautiful songs and giant splashes when they leap out of the water. Whales are gentle giants that help keep the ocean healthy, and they remind us that even the biggest creatures can be kind.

Here’s some more kid-friendly information:
- Biggest of the big! The blue whale is the largest animal to ever live—bigger than dinosaurs and longer than a basketball court.
- Not fish! Whales are mammals, which means they breathe air, have warm blood, and take care of their babies.
- Blowhole breathers. Whales must come up to the surface to breathe through the hole on top of their head.
- Baby love. Baby whales, called calves, drink milk from their mothers—just like human babies.
- Singing stars. Humpback whales sing long, beautiful songs that can be heard for miles underwater.
- Whale talk. They use whistles, clicks, and calls to chat with other whales far away.
- Giant hearts. A blue whale’s heart can weigh as much as a small car!
- Long lives. Some whales can live 70 to even 100 years—older than many people.
- Filter feeders. Baleen whales don’t have teeth; instead, they use baleen plates to filter tiny krill from seawater.
- Ocean helpers. By diving and surfacing, whales help spread nutrients that feed tiny ocean plants, which keep the seas healthy.
