Let’s Draw!

Step 1: Start with a big curve line for the left side of the head, allowing it to gently arch to convey a soft and friendly appearance. At the top, draw a cute tuft or crest with three upward flicks to make it look like a cockatiel, emphasizing its playful nature. Each flick should be distinct and lively, giving character to the bird’s head. Make sure to vary the thickness of the tuft a bit to add dimension and a sense of whimsy, as this small detail is essential to capturing the essence of a joyful cockatiel.

Step 2: Next, draw another big curve for the left side, ensuring it flows smoothly and mirrors the shape of the first curve you created. This curve will serve as a foundational element of your design, so take your time to make it symmetrical and visually appealing. Consider how this curve interacts with the surrounding elements, as it will impact the overall composition and balance of your artwork.

Step 3: Draw two big circular eyes near the center of the head, ensuring they are proportionate to give the character a charming appearance. Add a small white circle inside each eye for a shiny, cute look that enhances the liveliness of the expression. Make sure to position both circles symmetrically for a more balanced effect. Between the eyes, draw a small curved “V” shape for the beak, giving it a playful form that complements the overall facial features. You might consider adding a subtle outline to the beak to define it further, creating a delightful contrast with the surrounding areas.

Step 4: On one side of the body, draw a wing shaped like a teardrop pointing downward, making sure the curves are smooth and elegant. To add detail, include a small line at the base of the wing to represent feathers, creating a light texture. This line should be thin but clear, extending slightly outwards to show the layering of feathers. You can also add a few more lines radiating from the base for a more realistic look. These details will help your drawing capture the beauty of the wing structure.

Step 5: From the head, draw a smooth line down to form a rounded, plump body with gentle curves for a soft look. Think about how this line connects to the limbs and tail to keep proportions balanced.

Step 6: At the bottom of the body, draw two small “W” shapes with three toes each for the feet. These should curve slightly outward for a natural stance. Keep the toes evenly spaced for balance. You can add small lines at the tips to indicate claws, which will enhance the realism. Make sure the curve of the “W” shapes shows the character’s posture, suggesting they are ready to move or stand firmly.

Step 7: From the back of the body (near the wing), draw two or three pointed feathers sticking out like a fan. Curve and sharpen them to create a feathery look, making sure each feather has its own twist to reflect the natural appearance of bird feathers. Vary their lengths and angles slightly to add depth, allowing them to overlap for a more interesting and dynamic look.
